The service

New doesn’t mean flawless. Straight from the dealer, this one still had wash marring and light defects in the paint — picked up somewhere between the factory and the driveway, and invisible until it’s under proper lighting. A multi-stage correction took them out, then an eight-year ceramic coating went over the top, with the wheels and glass coated as well. The best time to do this is now, while the paint still has all its thickness.

The service

Water spot etching across the paint and glass, left by sprinkler overspray drying in the sun. A cut and polish levelled the paint back past the etching, and the glass was polished separately — different material, different process. An eight-year ceramic coating went on afterwards, with the wheels and glass coated as well.

The service

Seven and a half metres of gelcoat is a lot of surface to machine polish, and the panels that need it most are the ones you can’t reach from the ground. A full exterior detail and decontamination came first, then a cut and polish across the body to bring the gloss back, and a five-year ceramic coating over the top to hold it. Two of us, working panel by panel — there’s no fast way to do a vehicle this size properly.

A multi-stage correction under dedicated inspection lighting — a test section first to establish how the paint responded, then panel by panel until the grey had real depth back in it. Finished with a five-year ceramic coating, with the wheels and glass coated as well.

The service

Years of UV exposure had left the gelcoat dull and faded, with oxidation and chalking built up across the body panels. A cut and polish cut back the damaged surface layer and restored the gloss, then a ceramic coating went on to hold it there. The glass was polished and coated separately, so the windows carry the same clarity as the bodywork.

The service

We flew to Omaha for this one. Every year we travel to the United States to train with the manufacturers whose coatings we use, and this trip included several consecutive days working through a run of cars in the workshop there — this 911 among them. Same process we run in Tauranga: paintwork decontaminated and machine polished to bring the black back, then a ceramic coating locked in over the top.

Booked in for a full interior and exterior detail ahead of sale. Wheels cleaned and the exterior hand washed using a two-bucket technique, then dried and the glass cleaned. Inside, the carpets and seats were vacuumed and the dash, door cards and console wiped down and degreased, leaving the cabin presentable for the listing photos.

The mottling across the roof and upper panels wasn’t dirt — it was mineral etching left behind by water drying on the paint, and no wash was going to shift it. A cut and polish levelled it out and refined the finish past where it started, then a three-year ceramic coating went on to hold it there.

The service

This Tiguan came to us after being stolen and later recovered, with black fingerprint powder dusted across the dash, door trims and infotainment screen where police had processed it for prints. It’s not the usual reason a car ends up needing an interior detail, but the process is the same regardless of how the mess got there: every powder-covered surface vacuumed and wiped back, the screen and trims degreased without a mark left on them, and the cabin brought back to a finish the owner could actually get back into.

A full decontamination wash to lift tar, iron and lichen, then a synthetic clay bar to leave the gelcoat perfectly smooth. Graphics and trims were machine polished and restored before a five-year ceramic coating went over the lot — guarding against the UV fading, oxidation and chalking that come from sitting outside between trips, and making every wash from here on far easier.

Iron fallout remover on the wheels bled deep purple as it broke down months of embedded brake dust — the reaction that tells you the contamination is lifting out rather than being dragged across the surface. The paintwork was checked for swirl marks under inspection lighting and machine polished back to a clean, marring-free finish, then an eight-year ceramic coating went over the body, wheels and glass.
